Being a naturopathic doctor was not my original career plan, but a pivotal experience in my late 20’s compelled me to change my career, enroll in a four-year naturopathic graduate medical school and train to become a naturopathic doctor.

When I was 22, I graduated from the University of North Carolina magna cum laude with a double major in Psychology and English Literature and embarked on my chosen career. By my late 20’s, my health was not good. I was plagued with persistent physical problems. I had many questions about the development and treatment of my condition, but didn’t get many answers.

The role of “medical detective”

I was determined to find out what was going on in my body, so I took matters into my own hands and became a “medical detective.” I began reading and looking for clues that could explain my symptoms. I learned that I had become toxic in certain nutrients, because I was taking excessive amounts. It was a case of “more was not better.” In fact, more was making me toxic and sick. That discovery was only part of the solution.

Dissatisfied with conventional treatments, I eventually turned to naturopathic medicine. My N.D. helped me understand what was causing my problems. She treated the underlying causes–not only the symptoms–and helped me become healthier and feel better than I had in years. That life-changing experience made me realize that I had the natural curiosity and desire to become a naturopathic physician.

As a naturopathic doctor, I’ve learned that these four attributes are the most valuable skills I bring to my patients.

Like all of us, you’ve experienced too much “drive-by doctoring.” As my patient, you’ll appreciate an entirely different experience that begins with our initial, two-hour consultation. I spend most of that time listening to your story, your problems and concerns with genuine compassion. By actively listening and asking more questions, I can begin to understand and analyze what is going on with your physical problems. I can then formulate a personalized naturopathic treatment plan that gets to the root cause of your symptoms. For more information about this complete process, please read Our Services.

I look forward to helping you feel better and become healthier with the safe and natural therapies of naturopathic care.
